What Americans think of as rice is the blandest version of one of the oldest and most popular food grains in the world. Let Alton educate you about the far tastier and versatile cousins of the familiar long grains. Recipes featured in this episode: – Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto – Baked Brown Rice – Brown Rice saladg

Unfortunatley I learned the reverse isn’t true. I can’t make rice in a slow cooker..
i made a parmesian risotto the other day ussing about a cup of cheese and some thyme flowers with a half onoin and 2 garlic glove sweat at the begining and it was delicious. this proves that you dont need a bunch of ingredients to make a delicious meal
i actually like brown or wild rice more in dishes then white. white rice doesn’t have any bite to it, its to fluffy and i like the texture to brown rice. now that i know its healthier i’m gonna have it more often.
I use my rice cooker as a slow cooker to make coconut curry chicken, oatmeal, and stew.
THERE’S A WOMAN IN THAT RICE!!!
i never knew one could take a statement about rice so personally
Oh, Alton. Why do you keep a crystal in your fridge?
He’s such a geek, and I love that man.

Way to generalize-some of us Americans love rice more than any other dish as a “starch”, breakfast, drink and bulk up recipes.
That risotto looks delicious!
Has a rice cooker too. It works out just great. Just dump and let it do its thing.
min 1:30 we, in Italy, usually add white wine first, make it dry, then add hot broth…
anyway this is a GREAT recipe, very good indead! (even if I personally use less onion, 1/2 cup with same quantity of carrot and celery to make SOFFRITTO)
always remember to use REAL ITALIAN CHEESE!
buon appetito gente!
Have you tasted risotto by either one? Did you conduct a survey of those who have tasted both chefs risotto? Ignorant prick.
In Japanese, “gohan” means both “rice” and “meal.”
It depends on the cooker–I bought one (Krups) which baked the rice on the bottom (though it didn’t go so far as to burn it), but later bought another one (Aroma) that only started to do that if I kept it warming the rice for double-digit hours.
Tried the brown rice salad recipe the other day; its fantastic.
Couscous is a very small, round pasta. It cooks in 5 minutes.
You can also make bread in a rice cooker.
A rice cooker doesn’t actually have to be a unitasker. I’ve seen recipes to make carrot cake, among other things, in a rice cooker. I don’t have one myself, but I look forward to testing it out.
Chef Ramsay does risotto better
the little fact thing about the asian languages having rice and food as same is close in philippines. in tagalog rice is kanin and and eat is kain
hahaht the 2 guys
Its a pasta, darkcrimson23 is correct I’m pretty sure on what flour. Its great because you can just toss hot water over it in a bowl and in a few minutes, voila-its done. The only thing you can’t do is use too much water or whatever liquid you use.
Semolina, I think? My mom used to fix it in chicken broth every once and a while…I didn’t care for it too much.
does any one know what couscous is?
needs goats cheese
